Amazon

Established since 1994, Amazon is an American electronic commerce company based in Seattle and one of the 5 companies – known as GAFAM – that have fundamental influence on digital revolution. Today, Amazon employs more than 540 000 people worldwide.
Founded as a bookstore, Amazon offers quickly involved to other kind of products, especially cultural goods and groceries but also IT online services with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
By launching Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2006, Amazon continued its diversification with a new generation of cloud services, including its famous storage service Amazon S3 or its very flexible cloud computing service Amazon EC2.

Solution

Amazon was searching for a Product Lifecyle Management Solution (PLM) and began studying the main Open Source platforms on the market.

The fact that DocDokuPLM was highly customizable was a selling point.
The platform also succeeded going through Amazon security and quality code audit.
Finally, DocDoku agile and pragmatic approach finished convincing the web giant to choose this solution.

DocDoku team has therefore deployed DocDokuPLM on an AWS Cloud Infrastructure (obviously ;), with additional developments to be aligned with Amazon business specific challenges.

John Bennett, Senior Technical Program Manager at Amazon Corporate LLC, is enthusiastically summarizing his collaboration with DocDoku:

“The DocDoku team is obsessed with the success of their customers. They were able to customize their solution to meet the needs of a very specific PLM use case and deploy to our environment on time and under budget. DocDoku made it all very easy.”

Primafrance

Primafrance

Primafrance is supporting its clients in organizing and implementing systems of steering and projects management.
The company consists of 5 divisions : Aerospace / Defense, Architecture / Engineering / Building, Oil & Gas, Power  and Telecom.

Need

The « Architecture / Engineering / Building » division wanted to offer its clients a cloud based platform of collaborative engineering, running in real time using Building Information Modeling (BIM) for their construction sites.
The building and construction industry is in fact moving more and more to collaborative or simultaneous engineering methods, to complete their projects successfully. Studies are showing that sequential engineering methods are by far less efficient, due to their overly predictive nature and lack of adaptability.
This major evolution in methodology is translated in concrete terms by the necessity to have solutions that enable sharing datas from a work project between all trades.
This sharing is made through common data model (or BIM) that centralizes all information and redistributes them according to a multipoint of view approach. In this way, collaboration is achieved with maximum fluidity with no digital break, eliminating retyping errors and information loss.

The goal of the project was to create a cloud platform to  allow multiple users – from various trades, each of them connected to their own devices (PC, Mobile, Tablet)  – to :

  • work in a distributed way in highly heterogeneous environments,
  • collaborate in a cooperative way during all the lifecycle of the works (from specification to implementation) using those digital datas,
  • visualize and manipulate simultaneous digital model of work (3D plans or BIM).

Solution

A solution of construction sites and works based on DocDokuPLM plateform
After a short adaptation period done in agile mode, we have built a cloud platform that answered the requirement of the sector i.e. the digitalization of construction sites trade process, centered on BIM datas.

IFC format care
Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is a standardized and object oriented file format (ISO 16739 norm), used by the construction industry to exchange and share informations between softwares. It is the standard exchange format used commonly by softwares that enable working in BIM.
Our main task was to produce a plugin that can convert or import files under IFC standard to manage building or construction site effectivities as well as geometry.

Airbus Defence and Space – Intelligence

Airbus Defence and Space – Intelligence

Intelligence is a legal entity of Airbus Defence and Space division (Airbus Group).
Its mission is to allow smarter decision-making thanks to a premium product offering and unique services coming from satellite imagery.

Need

Intelligence asked DocDoku to create the new generation of its web portal dedicated to precision agriculture and crops management.
All season long, this service provides reliable and exploitable information to be used by farmers. Combining satellite imagery with drones, aircraft and agronomic expertise, these recommendations transcribe the real needs of the plants on plot scale in the form of documents, including text, tables and graphs of values, as well as agricultural plots cards. Furthermore, they permit to bring the proper imputs quantity in the right place at the right time. These recommendations are delivered to service subscribers through the web portal.

Another major goal of this project, but not the least, was to build a real business repository, which is exposed and usable by other IS applications.

Solution

Ergonomics and performance
Our many and various IS experiences in web / mobile development allow us to remain at the cutting edge of cross-platform and web technologies.
We particularly took care of the User Experience because we know that it’s really important for final users to adopt the solution (see screenshots below).

Scalability and robustness
In order to comply with these challenges, we based the new web portal development on our digital Open Source platform DocDokuPLM.
Based on the latest state of the art digital technologies, our platform was the answer to scalability and robustness requirements of such a key project, as it is for our industrials customers already in production.

An open, secured and upgradable business backbone
In order to build an open but secure business backbone, that can be used by others internal IS or external parts, we relied on the open architecture of our digital platform with many opportunities for integration in an extended IS.
DocDokuPLM is a real extensible PaaS for our customers’s business. So we could reuse and integrate a lot of our software components thanks to our multiple interfaces, i.e. our REST Web Services API or our both Java / Javascript SDK.

So by leveraging our existing platform already in production, the project benefits both open software architecture and robust and reliable features, which significantly decrease the risk of such a digital project.

Oktal (Sogeclair group)

Oktal (Sogeclair Group)

Key player in aeronautics, automotive and railway markets, Oktal is a supplier of simulation solutions adapted to training, research and engineering. The company joined the Simulation Division of Sogeclair Group in 2000.

Need

Facing a high increase in its activities, Oktal wanted to industrialize the production of some of its simulators, used by its various markets (automotive, railway, aeronautics).

With this aim in mind, the company had to get equipped  with a PLM solution that can provide, for every step of the system products development cycle (design, development, manufacture and maintenance) :

  • product effectivities management,
  • modelization and application of its product conception and modification process,
  • management of system products configuration,
  • past projects capitalization, to reuse the technological bricks that have been developed,
  • maintenance management (multi-sites and multi-clients).

Solution

We have worked in close collaboration with Oktal in order to make DocDokuPLM platform available and matching with their needs and within the pressing due date.

So our project approach was the following :

  • Functional and technical analysis,
  • Customization according to requirements,
  • Setup and configuration,
  • Key users training,
  • Private cloud for solution deployment.

In less that 6 months, the project was successfully completed, running in production and using real products.

Discover below one of Oktal’s most appreciated feature, thanks to its flexibility and multi-context dimension. It is in fact the search function or “Query builder” that answers to two main goals :

  • Maximum autonomy : the module offers an excellent flexibility.  Users can liberally make the most of the PLM datas without any required intervention on the code,
  • Cross-referenced search : if the datas displayed by the query are focused on articles, search results can also return informations linked to the finished products instances.

The export feature is coming from this module, allowing search result to be transposed into a spreadsheet format.

Airbus

Airbus

Airbus is the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer. Customer focused, its commercial know-how, technological leadership and manufacturing efficiency have brought the company to the forefront of the industry.

Need

Display the DMU (Digital Mock-Up) on a regular web browser without any plugin and allow data combining from various sources to be displayed on 3D models as on Google Maps.

Provide an easy access to PLM and DMU for population other than engineering designer (managers, sales…).

Solution

We worked closely with Airbus, leveraging our DocDokuPLM platform to deliver the perfect solution. The solution has to fit the complex aircraft manufacturer environment, made of various existing PLM systems and CAD tools based on Catia by Dassault Systèmes.

We deployed a disruptive solution based on standard Web technologies only, making the service widely available on any desktop OS (Windows, Mac and Linux) as well as on popular mobile systems. Through a sophisticated processing chain – deployable on an enterprise grid computing – the 3D Catia models and the associated metadata are imported to be delivered on a simple web browser without any plugin.

Using web services and JavaScript API, we created mashup applications mixing PLM, 3D models and content coming from heterogeneous softwares.
